Being missing teeth is only the beginning of the implant evaluation. A treatment plan should account for your medical history, gum health, bone anatomy, bite and whether other teeth need treatment first.
What the surgeon evaluates
The surgical consultation typically reviews the location of missing or failing teeth, the height and width of bone, important nearby anatomy and the condition of the gums.
Bone loss does not automatically exclude you
Modern grafting and augmentation procedures can sometimes rebuild support in areas affected by tooth loss. In other cases, the implant plan can be modified to use available bone.
Overall health matters
Certain medical conditions, medications, smoking and healing history may affect surgical planning. These factors do not always prevent treatment, but they should be discussed openly before surgery.
